By the end of 1974, Ford ceased marketing the DeTomaso Pantera through its Lincoln-Mercury dealerships after importing roughly 5,500 into the United States. Throughout that run, the Pantera evolved, offering customers higher levels of reliability and build construction, but as federally mandated safety and emissions regulations increased, it began relying more on luxury appointments and specialized accoutrements while still offering better-than-average performance.

The Pantera L arrived in August 1972. The U.S.-spec Pantera L featured large, black front and rear bumpers mounted to shock systems to absorb impact. While many considered them unsightly, they also served another purpose, directing airflow and adding weight to the nose to help keep it planted on the ground. Ford modified the 351 Cleveland V-8 engine with a 4-bolt main and an enhanced intake system, helping the Pantera keep its cool. A gamut of other subtle improvements made the Pantera L a remarkably delightful car to drive and enjoy, earning it a number of awards from the media.

Hailing from the final year Ford marketed the model and finished in red, this 1974 Pantera L deviates slightly from its original, as-delivered state with blackout detailing, the installation of small, front and rear black bumperettes and a vented bonnet in place of the original flat panel. Powered by the venerable 351 CI V-8 engine and ZF 5-speed transmission with a silver powdercoated case, the car benefits from a number of new features including a new Holley 650 carburetor, new valve covers, a new air cleaner assembly and air filter, a new chrome spreader bar in the engine bay, a new clutch master cylinder, new rebuilt brake calipers with new pads, a new brake master cylinder, new engine belts, new cooling fans and sensors, new OEM seats with upholstery kits, a new black leather factory shift knob and a new MOMO Prototipo leather steering wheel and hub.

The black interior features air conditioning with a new condenser and a serviced compressor with a Freon recharge, as well as a passenger-side GTS-style dash clock. The headlight doors were resprayed correctly and fitted with Hella 100W headlights
